Q : What is a home warranty?
A : A home warranty is a service contract, normally for one year, which helps protect homeowners against the cost of unexpected covered repairs or replacement on their major systems and appliances that break down due to normal wear and tear*.

Q : Is coverage through AHS available everywhere?
A : Almost. American Home Shield home warranties are currently available in 49 states(not available in Alaska), including the District of Columbia.

Q : What is Basic Coverage?
A : Generally, basic coverage** for a home under 5,000 sq ft, regardless of age* includes the home's heating, plumbing, electrical system, water heater and major appliances, such as range/oven/cooktop, dishwasher, garbage disposal, etc. Home warranties are available for homes that are over 5,000 sq ft for an additional fee.

Q : What happens when a covered system or appliance breaks down?
A : Customers call our 24-hour toll-free number, 1-800-735-4663 or visit our website www.ahsservice.com, to request service. We will then fax the work order to a contractor to perform the service call. The contractor calls the customer to set up a mutually convenient appointment time.

Q : Do I collect anything from the home owner?
A : Yes, there is a trade service call fee due when the technician comes to the home, normally $35-$50. The trade service call fee is for each visit by a service technician. Additional charges may apply to specific repairs and replacements.

*Systems and appliances designated by the manufacturer as commercial are not covered.
**Optional coverage such as pool/spa may be available at an additional fee. Please read the contract for specific coverage, limitations and exclusions. If you would like a copy of the contract to review prior to purchase, please fill out a Contact Us form.
***Coverage is for homes 4,000 square feet and under in Hawaii and Florida.
